Air India, one of India’s premier global airlines, inaugurates a cutting-edge mega warehouse in Delhi designed for the storage of over one million critical engineering spares essential for aircraft maintenance. This monumental step is aimed at bolstering Air India’s fleet and operational efficiency while strengthening India’s burgeoning aviation sector.

Revolutionizing Maintenance with a First-of-its-kind Facility

Air India has set the wheels in motion for an engineering warehouse facility in Delhi that is nothing short of groundbreaking. Spanning a substantial 54,000 square feet, this centralized hub is the first of its kind in India, designed to accommodate over one million crucial engineering spares required for the maintenance, inspections, and repairs of its aircraft and ground support equipment. Strategically positioned in proximity to Terminal 3 within the Cargo complex of Delhi Airport’s Air Cargo Logistics division, this warehouse will play a pivotal role in expediting the turnaround of Air India’s flights operating out of Delhi.

A Milestone for Air India

Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD of Air India, describes this colossal warehouse as a pivotal milestone for the airline. He emphasizes that it underscores the airline’s commitment to quality, professionalism, and substantial investments. This state-of-the-art facility isn’t just a game-changer for Air India’s operational efficiency but also a significant boon to India’s aviation ecosystem. By providing closer access to aircraft spares and enhancing control over inventory, the warehouse promises swift responses to engineering requirements, ultimately resulting in improved flight punctuality.

India’s First-of-its-kind

Notably, this integrated warehouse is a first of its kind among Indian airlines. It’s set to be the cornerstone of Air India’s engineering function, serving as a comprehensive solution for storing an array of aircraft spares, tools, and ground support equipment. This extensive inventory includes everything from basic hardware to intricate avionics, hydraulics, structural components, pneumatic systems, and mechanical parts.

The integrated facility is set to revolutionise the way Air India handles engineering resources, consolidating 16 previously scattered locations in Delhi and Mumbai into one cutting-edge hub. With the ability to serve the Air India, Air India Express, and AIX Connect fleet, it will streamline airline operations and offer better control over inventory. Proximity to Air India’s aircraft hangars at Terminal 3 of IGI airport ensures that materials can be swiftly dispatched to address technical issues, further optimizing maintenance operations.

This pioneering warehouse marks a significant enhancement to Air India’s engineering warehouse infrastructure, aligning with its transformation into a world-class airline.
